If you live in a shaded area, building a pergola can serve more of an aesthetic purpose for you. Having your backyard face the sun for most of the day can punch the joy out of even having a backyard if there’s no space to get relief from the sun’s rays while still being outside.
Many people don’t consider a pergola until they’ve lived at their house through at least one summer. Adding on a pergola to an existing structure or building it free-standing may be an expense up-front but over time will allow more comfort for your family. An added bonus is that it can also add a layer of privacy for yourself and your neighbors.
How we do it
Initial consultation
The initial consult includes discussing what you want your pergola to look like and the primary purpose for it. We’ll also add on to your ideas with suggestions for materials and design.
Selection
You’ll need to select the type of materials you want and any other added features.
Design
We will send you an illustration of your final design and make any final tweaks before we finalize a path.
Estimate
We will send over an estimate – it is good for 30 days. At this point we can still make changes to the design. We will not be ordering materials or applying for permits (if needed) until this estimate is approved. After you approve the estimate, we will put you on our schedule and begin ordering materials.
Construction
Construction begins usually around the time the materials arrive and the permits are approved.
